Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW NIGHT - FOR PARENTS ONLY:

Tonight, Thursday, September 8th all parents are invited to come and meet the teachers/staff and PEC members and hear about the curriculum and goals for the school year. There will be a meeting in the gym for all parents (Kindergarten - Grade 7) from 7:00 - 7:25 p.m. which will be followed by two information sessions (7:30 - 7:55 p.m. and 8:00 - 8:25 p.m.) in the various classrooms. This is an important opportunity for you to learn how to support your children in their learning, as you hear about teacher expectations and class curriculum. The information sessions are for parents of children in Grades 1 to 7 only as the Kindergarten information session was already shared at the Kindergarten Open House. Please note: This is not a Parent/Teacher interview.

FIRST FRIDAY MASS, SEPT. 9TH 9:15 A.M.:

All families are invited to attend First Friday Mass. Students are asked to bring a canned food donation and be in full school uniform.

EARTHQUAKE KITS AND STUDENT INFORMATION FORM:

Earthquake Kits and forms are due on Friday, September 16th.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOK FUNDRAISER:

Our 2011 coupon book has arrived with many new great 2 for 1 deals and discounts including Safeway, Subway and M & M . Each family will be given a book to view at tonight's Curriculum Overview meeting for parents or it will be sent home with your child on Friday. The cost of this Vancouver edition is $46. Please return payment for the book and any additional orders in the envelope provided.If you plan to travel or have friends or relatives in other provinces or states, you may want to purchase one of the many other books available for those areas. (See last page of the book)  Please direct all inquiries to Alana @ 604.929.2322

ELECTRONIC DEVICES:

Students will not be permitted to use electronic devices while they are on school property: (i.e. cell phones, I-pods, digital cameras, Game Boys, etc.). Students, who choose to bring electronic devices to school, for use once they leave the school property, are to leave then in their backpacks while on school property.

St. Pius X School in not responsible for damage or theft of electronic devices which students have brought to school.

PARENT STANDING COMMITTEE:

The P.S.C. helps organize social events and fundraisers for the school i.e. helping with the Spring Fair, potluck dinners etc. This is a great way to get involved and meet other parents in the school. Everyone is welcome. Meetings will be held once a month on Wednesdays. If you are interested in becoming part of the P.S.C., please join us at our first meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at 9:15 a.m. in the Music room.

THURSDAY BULLETINS:

In order to assist with the communication between home and school, a weekly bulletin will be sent home, every Thursday, electronically in subsequent weeks to each family's e-mail. You can also access the bulletin on-line at www.saintpius.ca. It is each family's responsibility to update their email subscription in order to receive the bulletin electronically. Hard copies will be available at the office.

PINK NOTICES:

A notice sent home on PINK PAPER requires your IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. Please read and sign these notices, as they must be returned by a DUE DATE, usually the following day.

Some pink notices will come home with the eldest  child in the family and may require a family payment.In this case,  please fill out the individual form and send it back to the child's teacher with the family payment by the due date.

SCHOOL SHOES:

Reminder to parents purchasing new school shoes for their children, if your child requires orthotics, please ensure the orthotics fit regulation school shoes. Also school shoes are to be black dress shoes (no stripes, logos or running shoes) .Physical Education: Running shoes may be any colour but have non-marking soles.

LABELING:

All school items MUST be clearly marked with your child's full name, especiallly uniforms as many students share the same first name, or initials.

SUPERVISION:

Teachers will be on hand to supervise students starting from 8:35 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. each school day. Students are not permitted to play around the Grotto and the surrounding bushes at any time. If you will be late picking up your child after school, please notify the school office preferably before 2:55 p.m. @ 604.929.0345

PARKING AND DROP OFF:

Please enter  from Mount Seymour Parkway and exit only onto Brockton. There will be NO stopping or drop off in front of the School. Parents who are escorting their child to the school, should park in the designated parking areas and accompany them to the back entrance of the school. Students are to remain outside on the school playground until the 8:50 a.m. bell.

MEDICAL ALERTS:

Ensuring a safe and healthy school environment is a responsibility shared by students, parents and staff. It is important that all members of the school community are aware of their role in promoting that child's safety.

Please notify the school if your child has any of the following:

A MEDICALLY DIAGNOSED health condition which may require emergency care at school, such as: anaphylaxis, diabetes, severe asthma, seizure disorder, blood clotting disorders or serious heart conditions. (Please contact the school office to complete a Medical Alert Information Sheet.) Please Note:

Parents who already have a Medical Alert Information Sheet filed with the school office should contact Ms. Helen Duke to review and update for the 2011-2012 school year.

PARENT DRIVER FORMS:

Parent Driver forms are required for each driver every year. This will allow you to drive for school led field trips. If you haven't completed one for this school year, please pick one up at the office counter.

DVD ORDERS:

Order forms for the 2010-2011 keepsake DVD have been sent home. Completed forms are due by Monday, Sept. 19. Cheques are payable to: St. Pius X School.



PANORAMA PHOTO ORDERS:

If you would like to order the 2010-2011 Panorama Photo, please see the  display portrait at the front office where you can obtain an order envelope. The cost for the photo is $13.

ENROLLMENT MASS-GRADE 7 AND GRADE 2 STUDENTS RECEIVING THE SACRAMENTS:

All Grade 7 and Grade 2 students and their families are invited to attend a special initiation Mass for Confirmandi and Communicants. This celebration of the Eucharist will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 29th . More details to follow.

WANTED:

The Grade 2 class is looking for Mr. Men books, Leveled Readers, Lego and an Etch-a-Sketch. Thank you for helping us to re-stock our class.

CWL WINE AND CHEESE SOCIAL:

All women in the parish are cordially invited to attend this annual social on Thursday, Sept. 15th. The evening will begin at 7:00 p.m. with Mass/Rosary in the church followed by a social in the Meeting Room. It is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones!! Please mark the date on your calendar.

LEADERSHIP CLUB:

Grade 6 and Grade 7 students will have their first Leadership Club Meeting on Monday, Sept. 12th at lunch.

DONATIONS OF UNIFORMS:
